Playing around with a borrowed harp these days… 🎶
Looking forward to playing at the Southern Illinois Irish Festival tomorrow afternoon! It’ll be wonderful to return there after these past few years — we all know how that goes —plus we’re playing a tune by our dearly departed friend Bryan Kelso Crow in his honor 💗
POV: you recently learned a fantastic new Swedish tune and want to play around with it, but your kittens are quite sure you actually want to play with them 😂
🎶 Sound on 🎶 ~ For the twelve days of Christmas -- that is, between Christmas and the day before Epiphany (today) -- I've been playing a 16th-century German folksong and experimenting with my own arrangements and interludes. So last night I recorded a little video to share with you... I do hope you enjoy. 💗
🎶 Sound on 🎶 ~ I was so taken with the gorgeous stained glass windows at the church last weekend that I decided to make a little video to share the morning with you. So, just a small snippet from the Handel we played together: an aria from the Messiah based on Isaiah 40:4, which promises a time when "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low, the crooked straight and the rough places plain." After the year that 2021 has been, these words speak to me of a time when the distant will be made close, the uncertain made clear, and those at risk made safe. Wishing everyone a very restful and restorative holiday 💕🎄🕯
Playing for church services for the first time in almost 2 years this morning. Nervous for safety but thankful for the policies that make the risk feel manageable. Just rehearsed a Handel selection with a lovely tenor - so wonderful to get to do this kind of thing again. It’s been so long…
So happy to have my upright piano picked up this morning and donated to @pianos4people! They are a great organization that “inspires successful futures by providing free access to the transformational power of the piano.” Free instruments, lessons, workshops, events, even summer camps… wow. We’re lucky to have them here in STL!
Today’s lessons are almost the last of the semester, so I wrapped up a few holiday remembrances for my students last night…
So proud of my students for their hard work on this semester's virtual recital! 🎶🍁This time, we gave ourselves a challenge: what if we learned all our pieces entirely by ear? I'm happy to report that everyone succeeded - plus, my students all shared their thoughts on how the process gave them new insights on what it means to play the flute well. Please do check it out! Studio Recitals

My students participate in “virtual recitals” twice a year – so you don’t have to add Yet Another Thing to your busy schedule.

We record our songs, listen thoughtfully, and then refine what we hear until we’re satisfied. Then we release our tracks online (complete with artist statements!) in order to share our music with friends & family, both near and far.
