Here’s the thing: traditional, in-person recitals can be wonderful experiences.
But everyone is so overscheduled these days, and the families in my studio are no exception. Music should be joyful, not just another thing to put on the calendar and check off when it’s done.
And, we want to be able to share our music with loved ones who might live far away.
Enter the virtual recital! Twice a year, my students release a SoundCloud with their favorite recorded tracks from the past semester. No one has to show up anywhere, and there’s no stress – instead, students benefit from the iterative process of recording, listening, changing, and listening again, until they’ve produced something they’re excited to share with the world.
